ESTIU

The photographic project “Estiu” (Catalan: Summer) delves into the idea of summer in Barcelona, a city that seemingly lives in perpetual summer. The series features intimate portraits of individuals, which dissolve typical summer-related themes such as thirst, enjoyment, melancholy, and lust and images of the city itself and its many landmarks.

The project aims to explore the connection between the city’s enduring summer lifestyle and the intimate, personal experiences of its inhabitants.

Having commenced in 2014, the project also serves as a reflection of the city’s evolution over time. It offers insightful perspective on the city’s shifting cultural and social landscape, encompassing the impact of tourism, recent global pandemic, and economic changes. Additionally, the project encompasses Ian’s recurring themes of voyeurism and homoeroticism.
